Upper Arm Laxity
Three different things soften an upper arm, and a thirty second pinch test at our Berkhamsted clinic tells you which is yours before you spend a penny. Then Exion radiofrequency or CoolSculpting Elite, or the two together, does the rest.

What it is and why it happens
The upper arm softens for three separate reasons and each wants a different answer, which is why a treatment aimed at the wrong one goes nowhere. Fat sitting over the triceps is one. Skin that has lost its elasticity, common after weight loss and from the fifties onward, is another. And the quiet loss of triceps muscle that comes with age and inactivity is the third and the most overlooked.
Pinch the back of your arm. A thick pad between your fingers is fat. Thin skin that comes away easily with little substance is laxity. An arm that feels soft and empty rather than either is usually muscle. Most people over fifty have a little of all three, and that is simply what arms do. At our Berkhamsted clinic, Anna Stenekova treats arms with Exion radiofrequency for laxity and CoolSculpting Elite for fat, chosen after that pinch.

How we assess and treat
The pinch test does most of the work and takes seconds. We then ask about your weight trajectory, because someone actively losing weight will change both the fat and the skin over it, and results are easier to plan once things have settled. We ask what training you do, because triceps work builds the muscle that fills the arm and makes every device treatment look better.
From there the plan is simple. A pinchable pad points to CoolSculpting Elite, loose skin points to Exion, and many arms enjoy both in sequence. Your clinician covers suitability, timing and aftercare at your consultation, and the team is a phone call away afterwards.

Can you treat it at home?
Resistance training is the single most effective thing available, and it is a joy to see what it does. Triceps work two or three times a week builds the muscle that fills the arm, and it does more for how an arm looks than any treatment on this page. It will not remove fat from that specific spot, because spot reduction is a myth, but it changes the shape underneath, which changes the shape overall. Overall weight loss reduces arm fat along with everything else, in a proportion your genetics decide rather than you.
Skincare on the arm helps texture rather than contour. Good skincare and SPF help protect the collagen behind laxity over years, and they are worth the habit. Genuinely loose skin is the one thing no cream reaches, since lost elasticity does not come back from a bottle, and the products sold specifically for arms are the same ingredients at a higher price. That is where Exion earns its place.

Frequently Asked Questions
Three things, usually together: fat over the triceps, skin that has lost elasticity, and loss of triceps muscle volume. Which one dominates decides the treatment.
Pinch the back of your arm. A thick pad is fat. Thin loose skin is laxity. An arm that feels soft and empty without either is usually muscle, and Anna confirms it in seconds at your consultation.
Resistance training genuinely does, and it is the most effective thing available. It builds the muscle that fills the arm and makes every treatment on this page look better. It will not spot-reduce fat, because that is not how fat works.
CoolSculpting is for fat, and it is excellent at it. Where laxity is the issue, Exion radiofrequency is the one that tightens, which is exactly why we pinch first.
Radiofrequency delivered at depth to warm the deeper skin, so it tightens and thickens over a course of three to four sessions. No downtime, and the arm simply carries on with your day. From £700 for one area at our Berkhamsted clinic.
Controlled cooling that freezes a pinchable fat pad so the body clears it over the following weeks. No needles, no downtime, results from one to three months, still improving at six. From £500 a cycle.
Yes, and many arms benefit from it. CoolSculpting first for the pad, Exion afterwards for the skin over it, planned as one course at your consultation.
Exion body from £700 for one area and CoolSculpting Elite from £500 a cycle at our Berkhamsted clinic. A combined plan is quoted at your consultation.
Three to four for Exion, one to two cycles for CoolSculpting, and resistance training is for life.
One to six months for the device treatments, because they work through fat clearance and collagen building rather than removal. CoolSculpting changes show from one to three months and keep improving for up to six.
Little to none. Both treatments let you carry on with your day, and any warmth or pinkness settles within forty eight hours.
If you are actively losing, yes. Further loss changes both the fat and the skin over it, and results are easier to plan once your weight has settled.
Exion improves moderate laxity beautifully, and your clinician talks through what a course can realistically achieve for your arm at your consultation, so you book with clear expectations.
